Reiki is an ancient “laying-on-of-hands” healing art form practiced by Tibetan monks thousands of years ago. Used in their meditation practice to raise cons.container ciousness, purify thoughts, and to balance energies. Discovered in 1870 by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese philosopher who wanted to acquire the ability to heal the body of all illness, seen and unseen. He studied the monks to contain and memorize the Reiki discipline, and then began to teach it. From here, it was passed down orally through generations of students, landing in the United States with Japanese-Hawaiin Reiki Master, Hawayo Takata, in the 1930s.
